Research into potential ESSaver

Commissioned by Energy Software Solutions is a 2009 websurvey held under a large number of business respondents (242) and private respondents (271). Hievan goal was to form a picture of the market potential of a product as ESSaver both groups. This Internet survey was conducted under the auspices of the Institute NTI University under the training HEAO Small Business & Retail Management).

1) Research method
The overall response rate of 10% is actually 3.8%. This disappointing response has led to the researchers in consultation with stakeholders, including field work in this thesis an extended period of 4 weeks. In these next four weeks the researchers sending many reminders about 3,000 invitations sent to the respondents who had failed on the first call. This memory has a positive impact on the overall response. The number of completed questionnaires in the last two weeks of the study / send (from 17 to 30 August 2009 rose to 242 from 193.
 
The objective response rate to reach ten percent is not reached. The required minimum sample size of 500 respondents with the addition of two research groups has been reached. (see picture below)
 
 
2) Research private respondents

Average energy costs per PC per year
The results of the research show that the majority of the respondents have no idea of the energy costs per PC per year. Only 77 persons were given an indication of this. Based on these results, a weighted average energy consumption per PC determined. Based on results of this study, the average energy costs per PC per year € 92.53.

The calculation underlying this is as follows:
  • 77 respondents indicated an indication of the power consumption of their PC per year.
  • 10 respondents indicated that the cost of their PC € 50.00 per year amount.
  • 40 respondents indicated that the cost of their PC € 75.00 per year amount.
  • 17 respondents indicated that the cost of their PC per year amount to € 125.00.
  • 10 respondents indicated that the cost of their PC per year amount to € 100.00.
(10 * € 50) + (40 * € 75) + (17 * € 125) + (10 * 150) = € 7125 / 77 respondents who have given an indication.

3) Research business respondents

Structure respondent group and number of employees in NL PC
By far the largest response comes from people working in small organizations of less than 20 employees. This is explained by the fact that there are many more small businesses and organizations in the Netherlands are large organizations with thousands of employees. According to the Central Bureau of Statistics has over 61% of workers in the UK access to a PC.
 
Average "on" time computer business environment
Based on the research results is a weighted average time that a PC is in use and is made in a business environment. The researchers have the following guidelines and maintaining the respondents:

1) Less than 3 hours per day = 1.5 hours
2) Between 3 and 5 hours per day = 4 hours
3) Between 5 and 8 hours per day = 6.5 hours
4) Between 8 and 12 hours per day = 10 hours
5) Between 12 and 24 hours per day = 18 hours
 
Then the number of respondents per answer multiplied by this directive and this total is divided by the total number of respondents. The result is an average use of 7.69 hours per day on average.

Attitude respondents
The survey showed that 53% of the surveyed companies is not necessary to cover them understand and have insight. This means that 47% because it endorses. Probably there is a substantial market for energy management software for PCs. Moreover, 10 respondents indicated that their organization has already implemented such a product, but this was also the energy settings in MS Windows called.
 
Corporate social responsibility
24% of respondents indicated that their organization's CSR policy is conducted. 16% of respondents who indicated no CSR policy has however said that in the near future, this plan to do. This confirms that CSR has become an increasingly important phenomenon in the Netherlands.
